My favorite sandwich to eat at the bakery is BBQ Pulled Pork with Milli's homemade potato salad on the side. She rubs the meat in seasoning and then slow roasts it until it falls apart perfectly. It's seasoned so well that it doesn't necessarily have to have more BBQ sauce on it to be delicious. Some customers have even opted to leave off additional BBQ sauce and eaten it as is. But, I admit that I do like to add quite a bit of sauce just so that it can drip down and I can lick it up. O_o

It's true. There's something about eating food that's dripping all over your hands that makes it so much more enjoyable. Why is that? In many cases such a scenario would make me cringe, but eating a big hunk of food, that takes both hands and tons of napkins is heaven for me. Mmm ...

It's Tricky

It's tricky to eat Milli's CUPCAKES. Deep down you want to eat them slowly, savoring each bite. Scrum-diddly-umptious!

Like any business, owning a cupcake bakery has its pros and cons. One of the cons is ... bringing home cupcakes from work because they have to be eaten. One of the pros is ... bringing home cupcakes from work so that they can be eaten!!!

Well, today I called in a request for a variety pack to be brought home and I must say I'm pleased as punch to have these four scrum-diddly-umptious flavors to choose from. 

I now have a Pistachio in my possession so I can devour, I mean try, it without further hesitation. The Chocolate Overload is a given, and I'll eat the Vanilla Bean with joy and slip off into a right nice sugar sleep for the night. 

The Pumpkin Spice Latte I believe I'll save for breakfast. It should go down nicely with a cup of coffee. I can already picture it tasting divinely as I sit swaddled in my Snuggie, nice and warm with a book in hand, in my favorite chair. 

The score: Jack Frost with winter storm, 1. Zari with book, coffee and a Pumpkin Spice Latte cupcake, 1000!  

Oh, Oh, Pistachio!

I have to confess I'm a picky eater. I have a pretty short list of things that I eat out of all of the billions of delicacies available for man to devour. I even like my food separated on my plate - or better yet one thing on a plate and everything else in a bowl or on a saucer - so nothing intermingles. 

From my family's bakery, Cupcakes Bakery & Deli in Kennewick, Wash., I've basically only eaten chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting since 2009. Chocolate. It's what I do, it's who I am. But, in October I ate some vanilla wedding cake because I was craving massive amounts of sugar one evening, and vanilla cake was all that was available. 

Let me tell you. It was phenomenal! No lie. When I eat vanilla cake - and, seriously, I try not to - I have to have Haagen Dasz vanilla ice cream at the ready. And, I need enough ice cream to match every bite of cake. O_O But, it was so moist and delicious I didn't need ice cream and I ate so much of it, I laid flat on my back in front of the fire place to digest and recover from sugar coma. 

Since then, through coercion, I've tried Strawberry Cheesecake and, willingly, Blueberry Cheesecake. And, now, these Pistachio cupcakes are beckoning me with a force I may not be able to withstand. 

Oh, oh, Pistachio! I wish you'd stop calling my name.

Happy New Year 2012!

What an exciting year 2011 turned out to be!  I choose to say exciting rather than "stressful".  After losing our lease on our location in Downtown Kennewick we spent 5 months trying to do special orders and keep our name in front of our customers via advertising and social media. Here I must give kudos to my daughter Zari.  She has been a lifesaver in so many ways, but her expertise with social interaction via Facebook & Twitter helped to increase our online presence and kept our customers informed and involved with our move.

After signing the contract & paying our downpayment in July, 2011, we expected to be in our new location within 6 weeks.  SIX weeks, turned into 2 months then 3 and finally the Occupancy agreement was received on November 17, 2011, a full 5 months after closing our doors in Downtown Kennewick!  We opened our new doors for the first day of business...and were shut down  4 hours later because of a problem with a utility connection.  Bummer!  The next week was Thanksgiving and we weren't sure we would have a home. Zari took to the Facebook page and kept our customers informed & involved as I tried testing new equipment while working around plumbers.

We are now in our fantastic, built for us new location at 5610 W. Clearwater, Kennewick, WA.  It's a little difficult to see how to turn in to the parking lot the first time.  Just watch for our A- frame yellow signs with the big cupcakes on them.  /I am working on lots of new recipes and we have terrific giveaways to "taste test" so be sure and like us on Face book (www.facebook.com/cupcakesdeli or follow us on Twitter www.twitter.com/cupcakedeli . Remember we are the premier gourmet cupcake shoppe in the Tri-City area.  And we make some darn good sandwiches, too! Sounds like things may be happening in 12"s.
